Houston Astros, UH Cougars football among top sports questions headlining this week!

Houston, Texas (KTRK) – The Astros aren’t going anywhere, except for the playoffs, of course, but football season is finally here in Texas.

Houston Chronicle columnist Brian T. Smith joins ABC13 anchor Jonathan Bruce to analyze the biggest stories in Houston sports. Are Texas on the cusp of respect this season? Can the University of Houston challenge the college football game? Is Justin Verlander’s injury a concern for the Astros? Watch in the video above.

Number 24 Houston Cougars start 2022 season On the road against UTSA on Saturday at 2:30 p.m., The Coogs exit their 12-2 season with a victory over an Auburn SEC. Coach Dana Holgorsen secured a six-year extension to 2027 again in March.

They’re full of talent, starting with quarterback back to start Clayton Tone, who threw for 3,544 yards and 30 touchdowns in 2021. This weekend’s opener in San Antonio against the UTSA Roadrunners will be the toughest challenge on their schedule. UTSA is also a program on the rise, looking to make a statement after its 12-2 season a year ago.

Some of UH’s best off-season stories:

AL-best Astros is heading west, then west This week with the road series the Texas Rangers and Los Angeles Angels, two teams totaling 49.5 games under 0.500.

Rangers have spent a whopping $580.7 million this off-season but are set to miss the playoffs for the sixth straight season, having sacked their manager and head coach earlier this month.

Meanwhile, the Angels boast three of the biggest stars in baseball over the past decade: Albert Pujols, Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani, with seven MVP awards among them. However, they will miss the playoffs this year for the seventh consecutive season.

Astros? Well, queue early again for the playoff tickets. Friday’s game between Lance McCullers Jr of Houston and Otani is the best game of the week for the fans.

This Saturday, ABC double-header No. 11 in Oregon plays Georgia No. 3 at the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Classic at 2:30 p.m.
